Hike-A-Thon

The Hike-A-Thon/Family Fun Walk is a council-sponsored fundraiser targeted to individual Scouts to help them raise money for Scouting activities. The vast majority of the money Scouts raise is used to pay for summer camp. With little effort, a Scout can easily raise enough money to pay for their entire summer camping fees or use the money for other Scout-related activities or supplies.

The Hike-A-Thon is big $$$ for Scouts...don't miss out!

Forms

  • Unit Coordinator's Instruction Sheet
  • Hiker's Instruction Sheet
  • Hiker's Pledge Form (must have 3 copies of completed form)

Pledges

Scouts collect pledges for participation in the event. Scouts normally collect pledges from family, friends, and people in the community. We recommend that the Scout collect the pledge when the pledge is made and not try to collect the pledges after the event.

Unit Coordinator

Every pack, troop, or crew should have a unit coordinator for the Hike-A-Thon, responsible for encouraging all the Scouts in your unit to participate. This person should become familiar with the details of the event (see above) in order to relay the information to the Scouts and parents in your unit. The unit coordinator should also...

  • Provide each Scout with a copy of the Pledge Form, Collection Envelope, and Hiker's Instructions. Have extra forms available for Scouts needing extras. If a Scout uses more than one form, please write "1 or 2", "2 or 2" on the top of the form to reduce confusion if the forms get separated. These forms will be provided to the unit at the monthly Roundtables or you may download them below.
  • Collect all the forms and check the totals. Try to collect all pledges before the event.

At the Event

  • Arrive at the event as a unit.
  • The unit coordinator should present all the pledge forms at registration while the Scouts are preparing for the hike. Please keep the number of people at registration to one or two to make the process as fast as possible. While your unit is hiking, the Hike-A-Thon volunteers will verify the individual forms and create a unit settlement form.
  • Two adults should be with the Scouts at all times, on and off the trail. Keep your unit together.
  • Ensure the Scouts are dressed for the weather and carry water.
  • Have Fun, sing songs, and have a good time!
  • After the hike, the unit coordinator should return to the registration area and collect the pledge forms and settlement sheet. The unit may pay their portion (25% of the total pledges) the day of the event or send the money to the Pine Tree Council Service Center within two weeks after the event.
