ROUNDTABLE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 2009

Roundtable will be held at Sherman
Lake Rest Area on Route 1 in Edgecomb.  Come and have fun, pick up your unit
Program Launch Kit AND join us for a Wood Badge beading ceremony. Carl
Young, Scoutmaster Troop 21, Bath; Steve Saucier, Downeast District
Executive; Phil Gary, Cubmaster, Past 633, Brunswick; and Paul Galipeau,
Downeast District Training Chairman will receive their Wood Badge beads in a
beading ceremony at Roundtable.

 

Wood Badge. What is Wood Badge you ask?

Well, I will tell you a little bit about it!

"Wood Badge is Scouting's premier training course for Scouters which finally
results in their receiving a certificate, a small neckerchief, a leather
slide, and two small wooden beads on a leather thong. Lord Baden-Powell, the
founder of Scouting, directed the first course in 1919 and gave each of the
participants one of the beads which he had captured from the African
chieftain Dinizulu. Thus did the course name develop, for its symbol was
literally a badge of wood."

2010 REGISTRATION FEE.

For all units planning out a full year of Scouting and budgeting for the
year, the cost of registration for the Scouting program will be $15.  The $1
Pine Tree Council insurance fee will also remain.  This does not begin until
January 1 of 2010.

CUB SCOUT ADVANCEMENT.

Starting June 1 of this year all Cub Scout units must fill out an
advancement form or use online advancement for all RANK advancement (Bobcat,
Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light) to purchase the badges from
the Scout Shop.  If a unit needs their advancement code for online
advancement, please contact Steve Saucier at ssaucier@bsamail.org

OPPORTUNITY FOR SERVICE.

Boy Scout Troops or individual Scouts who would like to work with Habitat
for Humanity
have a great opportunity!  On Saturdays, from 9 am to 12 pm,
Habitat for Humanity needs help building picnic tables to sell in the
ReStore in Bath.  If you would like to sign your Troop (Scouts ages 14 to
18) for a Saturday, please contact Steve Saucier at ssaucier@bsamail.org.

NEW EAGLE SCOUT IN DOWNEAST DISTRICT.

If you see Patrick Thompson of Troop 207 in Union, congratulate him! He is
Downeast District's newest Eagle Scout. Patrick's Eagle Board of Review was
held Sunday, May 31, 2009.
