WORDS TO HISTORIC DOWNEAST DISTRICT HYMN.
At the Downeast Camporee in just a matter of weeks, look for the campfire to close with true inspiration including the Downeast District Hymn. If your troop does not know the tune, please email your phone number with a voice mail and a time to call. We (not your editor) will be happy to sing the hymn for your recording pleasure.

Downeast District Hymn
(to be sung at the campfire)
High above Atlantic Waters
Nestled in the trees,
Lives the spirit of good Scouting
And true loyalties.
We are striving, ‘
Always trying,
Ever more to be
Faithful to the Oath and Scout Law.
Hail, Downeast, To thee!

MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR LIST.
The Downeast District Advancement Committee is currently working on reorganizing and updating the Downeast District merit badge counselor list. In order to do this most efficiently, we need the help and cooperation of every individual scouting unit.
Please have your troop's merit badge coordinator, advancement chair (or whatever adult volunteer is usually responsible for merit badge counselors for your troop) send an updated list of your troop's current, registered merit badge counselors. This list should include the following information: merit badge counselor's name, phone number, mailing address, email address and a list of merit badges they counsel.
The old, semi-current list of merit badge counselors will be tossed / eliminated / defunct / (you get the idea?). This new, now-under-construction list will include ONLY those merit badge counselors whose names I receive from each unit. If a person is NOT on the newly updated, now-under-construction merit badge counselor list, then he / she will not be a registered merit badge counselor for the Downeast District.
Please help by sending the above information for your troop no later than Friday, October 9 to DE District Advancement Committee member, Agnes Parker at haparker@suscom-maine.net or by snail mail to: 2 Weeks Street in Bath, ME 04530-1726. If you have any questions, contact Agnes by phone at 449-1417.
Troop 648 in Brunswick FUNRAISER:
October 30, 2009, Troop 648 Fundraiser Spaghetti Dinner, St. Charles Borromeo Parish Hall in Brunswick. 653-6197 for more information
UNIT INVENTORY. Unit Inventory
On Monday October 19 from 6PM tm 8PM, a representative from the Downeast District will be calling, Scout Masters, Cub, Masters, and Committee Chairs and doing a unit inventory. Please have your roster ready to read to the representative. You can also email your roster to Steve Saucier and you will not be called, or if you are a Boy Scout Troop you can bring your roster to the Fall Camporee.
Indian Children
Where we walk to school each day
Indian children used to play
All about our native land,
Where the shops and houses stand.
And the trees were very tall,
And there were no streets at all,
Not a church and not a steeple
Only woods and Indian people.
Only wigwams on the ground,
And at night bears prowling round
What a different place to-day
Where we live and work and play!
