1. KLONDIKE DERBY. Downeast Troops to gather at Marine Maritime Museum in Bath on January 30 for annual Klondike Derby.
Registration begins at 8 am, with the Patrol Leader's Meeting at 8:30. Opening Ceremony is at 8:45.
Stations are:
Semaphore Signaling
- Boys need to know that arm positions are opposite if you’re sending versus receiving the message.
UnRep (Underway Replenishment)
- This is a problem solving activity of how to get an object from one side of an expanse to the other, over a static line.
Plotting
- You need to plot an object on a nautical map by triangulating from three known points. Scouts need to be able to find a direction and plot that direction on a map.
Wood Bending
- This is a demonstration station where Scouts learn how wood is bent using steam.
Scavenger Hunt
- Scouts will tour the museum and learn about Maine's seafaring tradition by finding things on a list.
The afternoon will include sled races, and a secret final competition (you'll want to know how to tie together rope of different diameters).
Families are welcome to come and visit the museum at a discounted rate, and enjoy good food in Long Reach Hall.

3. LIFE TO EAGLE WORKSHOP. Troops will receive a separate mailing with registration information on this two part workshop open to Life Scouts.
This is a pilot workshop. Part 1 will be held February 4, a Thursday. We will honor this date because it has been published in the Pine Tree Council calendar and we believe that troops have planned their calendars in conjunction with the PTC calendar. Part II will be held Saturday, February 6. An invitational email will be sent within the next two days.
