2. HANDY DANDY TIPS FOR SCOUTS FOR MERIT BADGE COLLEGE – PLEASE PASS ALONG TO YOUR SCOUTS.
2010 Spring Merit Badge College – Handy-Dandy Tips for Scouts
1. YOU (not your parent) should be calling the instructor to register for MBC.
2. Some instructors limit their class size or have other prerequisites, so don't want until the list minute to register. Call ASAP.
3. Make sure you have an updated list of requirements for the merit badge(s) you've signed up for. (Find online at http://usscouts.org/usscouts/
4. Find out from your instructor(s) if you need to print out your own worksheets for merit badge(s) . (Use above computer address.)
5. Find out from your instructor(s) if you have work / assignments due for the very first class.
6. Keep up with the assignments during MBC so you don't fall behind.
7. Have supplies for class: signed blue cards, paper, pencil, etc..
8. Get a signed blue card to bring to your first class. Fill out all info on all sections of the card.....your name, address, troop #, etc..
9. The instructor may ask for the following info, so be sure you know and have it ready at your first class: name, mailing address, phone #, email address, age, troop #, scout rank, scoutmaster's name.
10. Ask for and write down your instructor's name, phone # and email address.
11. Do not bring food or drinks into the school building or classrooms. (Water only)
12. Remember that you may not have enough time to complete all requirements during Merit Badge College. Also, some requirements may not be readily done in class, requiring you to work on your own and then sending verification to your instructor / mb counselor. Your instructor will let you know. If not, ASK. Instructors will most likely keep your blue cards and sign off as you complete requirements by phone, email, etc. and then return blue cards to you when all requirements are completed.
13. The 2010 Spring MBC is being held at two locations: Fisher-Mitchell School on 597 High Street in Bath; and the Bath YMCA on 303 Centre Street. Both locations are being generously donated.
14. Please be respectful of the buildings being used for MBC. Do not run, yell or use foul language while in the buildings. Do not enter or disturb any rooms or areas that are not part of your MBC merit badge class. Do not handle or move items in classrooms. Help keep corridors and classrooms neat and clean by picking up trash, stacking chairs, etc..
15. Scout uniforms should be worn if at all possible.
16. For the Climbing merit badge being held at the Bath YMCA, we recommend a class B scout shirt and elastic waist pants.
17. Your MBC instructors are volunteers. Please thank them for their time.

4. Governor Celebrates 100 Years of Boy Scouts of America (Had I known, I would have sent this out BEFORE the Recognition Date. (-ed)
February 17, 2010
Governor's Office
AUGUSTA – Governor John E. Baldacci today recognized Boy Scouts from the Pine Tree Council and the Katahdin Area Council at a State House celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America. The Governor issued a proclamation declaring the month of February 2010 as Scouting Anniversary Month.
“Our State’s reputation as a place where citizens are involved and concerned about their neighbors is one that others envy. That good fortune needs to be nurtured,” said Governor Baldacci. “Respecting others and giving back to the community is not only what it means to be a Mainer, but it’s the Scouting tradition.”
“The work of the Boy Scouts of America fosters this connection of young people to their community,” said the Governor. “Through the Boy Scouts, youth gain a better understanding of the world around them and develop experiences that will last a life-time. Boy Scouts exemplify the true spirit of our communities and what it means to live in our great State.”
The Governor’s proclamation recognizing the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America follows.
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America has been at the forefront of instilling the timeless values of leadership, achievement, community service, character, and environmental stewardship in youth since its founding in 1910; and
WHEREAS, this national youth movement has made serving others through its values-based program its mission; and
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America is committed to helping millions of youth succeed by providing the support, friendship, and mentoring necessary to live a happy and fulfilling life; and
WHEREAS, the Katahdin Area and the Pine Tree Councils of the Boy Scouts of America and their Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews are celebrating Scouting’s 100th anniversary with the theme “Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey”; and
WHEREAS, there are more than 525 community organizations that make Scouting available for more than 14,000 youth members in our State who participate in the Scouting program as a means of character building, citizenship training, and personal fitness,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN E. BALDACCI, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim February, 2010 as Scouting Anniversary Month throughout the State of Maine, and urge all citizens to recognize this observance.
