Dear Downeast District,****

4. FRIENDS OF SCOUTING.****

** **

HAPPY NEW YEAR! With the holidays behind us and a new year upon us, it is
the season for FOS. As most, if not all of you know, FOS or Friends of
Scouting is our annual fundraising campaign to help support the initiatives
of the district. In fact over 90 percent of your donations goes directly to
program and membership services. I know some of you have presented in the
past and thank you all for doing so. If you know someone in your unit who
wants to either get more involved in Scouting, learn more about what we do,
or you think would just make a great presenter then this would be a great
opportunity. ****

** **

We do have a training opportunity for presenters this Tuesday (1/10/2012)at
6:30 p.m. at the PTC service center in Portland. Given the distance
(especially those who live past the Sagadahoc Bridge in Bath) I expect a
good number of people will not be able to make it. However, if you still
want to be a presenter, I am more then happy to provide one on one training
for people. Being a presenter is easy. All that is involved is that you go
to one meeting, give a presentation about the merits of Scouting, and
collect and return donations to the council, and viola you've just made a
huge contribution to Scouting! ****

** **

What I need from the committee chairman of pack, troop, crew and post is
the date that you plan to have your FOS presentation, the location and
time, and any contact info you have for the person who did your
presentation in years past. (Call or email Owen for details. Regular
Beacon subscribers know we don't send attachments =96 ed.) If you need a
presenter, let me know, we can either work to recruit someone or I can come
and do it for you. Thanks for your support, I look forward to a great year
in Downeast.****

The Beacon is a user friendly, pretty simple Downeast District information
e-newsletter, written to support leaders and families of Packs, Troops,
Ships, Crews and Explorer Posts. Our goal is to reach every registered
leader, committee member, and parent in each unit in Downeast District. So,
*ask folks in your unit to send their preferred email address to the Beacon
